Ifa & Metaphysics
Ifa metaphysical doctrines, because they aren't always based upon direct observation of material reality, are oftentimes in conflict with modern-day spiritual belief systems. Beginning with the Scientific reformation, experiments with, and observations of, the "physical" world, it became the standard for measuring reality and truth. Therefore, our understanding of acquired worldly knowledge over the wisdom of Ifa helps explain the controversy and skepticism concerning metaphysical claims, which are considered unverifiable.
Ifa is a nature-based tradition. Its initiations, rituals, and parables are steeped in metaphysical principles. They convey the information needed to study the mechanics of both, the spiritual and natural worlds. Ifa metaphysics teaches us that everything in nature has some form of consciousness called Ori, and it teaches us that the world in which we live, is a multi-dimensional reality.
Through the Ifa divination system, the Ifa priest invokes Orunmila, the deity of morality, prophecy, and ethics. Which provides a channel of communication between the realms of spirit and that of the terrestrial world. Which in turn, allows the Ifa priest to tap into other multidimensional realities. The ultimate goal of Ifa metaphysics is maintaining balance with our world, orisa, ancestors and our ori.
